One Room Challenge: WEEK 3--Anthropologie Inspired Chandelier Crib Mobile

Week 3 Update

Whew— what a week! I was in Florida for part of the week and am definitely playing catch up to get all of my nursery projects for Week 3 of the One Room Challenge completed. I got a little bit of the painting done and spent the rest of the week creating the most adorable crib mobile chandelier you’ve ever seen!

Anthro Inspired Tassel Chandelier Crib MoBile

I fell in love with the Fela Tasseled Chandelier from Anthro Living Home and was bummed to see that it was sold out and not going to be restocked.

So what does a DIYer do in this situation?

Figure out how to make it, of course!

I started by watching a few different tutorials online to help me figure out the difficulty level and it looked time consuming, but fairly easy. (Both of which ended up being true!)

I found this YouTube video by The Simple Farmhouse to be very helpful, especially the tassel making part, which I had never done before (though after hand-tying 100 tassels this week, I feel like I’m pretty much a pro now!)

I originally planned to replace the ceiling fan in the nursery with a 3- tier chandelier light, but after reading about the benefits of ceiling fans in the nursery, I modified my plans and decided to make a 2-tier crib mobile instead.

During my DIY research, I came across this little cutie at the Cherri Berry Shop on Etsy, so I tucked this idea away and headed over to Hobby Lobby to see what materials I could find.

Materials

(I put everything you’ll need for this project on an Amazon Shopping List to make it super easy for you to create your own!)

  • Yarn skeins (I used 5 white & 3 light pink skeins for my two-tiered version)

  • Two or three metal or wooden wreath frames (I used an 18” & a 10” beaded frame)

  • Thread

  • Sharp scissors

  • 10’ of decorative chain link

  • Spray paint (optional for the chain link if you want it to be customized)

  • A pendant light cord kit (plug-in or hard wired depending on how you want to install it)

  • Crib Mobile arm or Swag Kit

  • Pliers

  • Patience. Lots of patience.

The Process (simplified)

  1. Make the tassels (I made 96 for my version and it took a good 10 plus hours)

  2. Hang tassels on wreath forms using sturdy thread.

  3. Measure the length of chain needed for the inside tier to hang where you want it (I did 7” chains between the tiers and 30” chains for hanging)

  4. Use pliers to open chain links and connect the tiers & hanging links.

  5. Add the pendant light cord.

  6. Hang & enjoy!

The Result

I cannot believe how cute this chandelier turned out! It is even more adorable than I imagined and was definitely worth all the time spent tying and threading tassels together.

I still have wallpapering and more painting in the nursery before I can hang this little cutie, so stay tuned for more One Room Challenge updates and be sure to check out the other participants’ creativity as well!
